So apparently there are no rules for this tag (because it's unofficial...) but basically I'm supposed to take some of the characters from one of my WIPs and tell y'all what they're doing in quarantine! Since my cowriting project is only a couple of chapters long (look, I had finals), I decided to use the babies characters from one of my oldest and longest WIPs which I haven't touched in months and doesn't even have a name which I'm planning on working on again this summer!
Jacob: Started homeschooling Rose the first day of QT, ignoring her protests that he was her brother, not her parents, and that she wasn't even in school yet. Is paranoid that someone he loves is going to get sick, and so has hired someone to bring them groceries and supplies, and is not letting Rose or Adam leave the property, and barely letting them leave the house. Won't even let Leah in. Reads the news every day in hope that the curve is flattening, but doesn't see much hope for the summer.
Leah: Is aggressively taking online community college classes and studying for several hours a day. Is also teaching herself two foreign languages. In her free time, she drops supplies off to people who need them in a singularly grumpy fashion. Still goes out to the grocery store on a regular basis, but isn't trying any harder than usual to connect with friends (so, she's not seeing anyone). Her social media is full of selfies with her lizard.
Mira: Has Zoom, Skype and FaceTime calls with friends for hours a day, not to mention the text exchanges, and time on an actual phone. Is loving the extra time with her seven brothers, although they drive her nuts when they horn in on her calls. Keeps trying to reach Leah, but she's ignoring her. (In the nicest way possible, of course). Is enjoying watching cute animals on YouTube between calls, and OF COURSE she's not spending too much time on the computer, why would you think that.
May: Is sewing masks for essential workers as fast as her needle can go, while simultaneously Skype-ing with Mira. Goes and waves to seniors in five different senior homes every day.
Believes all of the articles that say that Antifa has taken over Seattle.
Rose: Gets through with homeschool as fast as possible so she can go outside with Adam. Keeps bugging Jacob to let her get out of the house, and generally getting on his nerves. Once Jacob has given her his firm 'no' on going somewhere (for that day), she starts bugging him to let her get an Instagram.
Wow, this was both easier AND more fun than I expected...and it may have given me some character insights? Thanks, Sarah!
I'm going to tag people, since that seems to be The Done Thing:
Faith @ The Florid Sword (Pleeeease do this with The Pentegreens!)
Hamlette @ Hamlette's Soliloquy (I mostly follow her other blog, but this seems to be her tag/update/articles blog, and I would love to see her do this with any of her books, published or otherwise!)
Bethany @ Scribbled Fiction (Because I NEED TO KNOW what Wick and Archer are doing in QT)
Who are you most like? Do you have a writing project that you've put aside and 'let sit' for too long? *cough*
I LOVE this post! Your characters sound amazing - and Mira’s spending too much time on the computer is 100% relatable. XD XD
ReplyDeleteThank you! Yeah, the computer's siren song has been getting the better of me quite a bit these days...XD
DeleteI completely forgot today was Friday and I got really excited when I saw this on my feed!!
ReplyDeleteThese were so fun! I particularly liked Leah and Rose, though I'm probably most like Mira. I definitely enjoyed the "friends reaching out" aspect of QT.
So glad you were able to do this post!!
I'm glad! (Not that you forgot it was Friday, but that you were excited to see my post. XD
DeleteThank you! They were a lot of fun to write! Leah's was the most fun (she is a super quirky character), but I'm also probably most like Mira (or maybe a mix between Mira and Rose?).
Me too! Thank you for tagging me!
AGGHHH I was so happy when I saw this. This tag is so phenomenal, and SNEAK PEEKS AT SAM'S CHARACTERS? YES PLEASE.
ReplyDelete*ahem* Excuse the caps.
May and Leah sound like my favorites. But I thiiink I'm more like Mira. :) Jacob sounds kinda adorable, too.
I'm glad you were happy to see it! It's a super fun tag, and I'm glad you're excited to see my characters...sharing them made me a little nervous!
Delete(No apologies necessary, you just made my morning. 😊)
Leah is definitely my favorite (*apologizes to other characters, but pretty sure they knw that already*) and May is super sweet. I think I'm like Mira, too, which is funny because I've been having a hard time pinning down her character, and this post actually helped quite a bit? Jacob is adorable and squishy, which makes it fun to do really mean things to him. 🙃
Oh your characters are so fun! Jacob especially is relatable.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to learn more about this WIP! Are you doing Camp NaNo this July? I can get you info if you'd like to join us, don't worry it's free! I've got a group of Catholic girl writers called the Siena Society - made up of fellow Catholic girl bloggers like Megan, Nicole, and a few others.
Thank you!
DeleteAnd thank you! I'm kind of doing book surgery on it right now, soooo...And actually, I hadn't thought about Camp NaNo, but I would love to join y'all. *gulps nervously, realizing this is the first day of July* I'm going to go look it up right now, but if there's more I should know, please tell me!
