Hey guys! Something exciting is coming up next week...my blogoversary! I started blogging on May 12, 2020, which means that as of next Wednesday I'll have been blogging for one year! Wow. That's kinda surreal.
And before I get into what I'm doing for this blogoversary, I just want to say: thank you!
Yep, you read that right: thank you!
If not for all of you, who read my blog, commented, and engaged with this very new blogger, I would not have kept blogging! And so you all have my undying gratitude, because my life has become so much more rich from interacting and getting to know y'all through this blog community!
So. On to what I'm doing to celebrate!
For my blogoversary, I am inviting you to send me your burning questions! Ask anything you want to know, and, as long as it's not "where exactly do you live", or other questions in that vein, I would be happy to answer it! Yes, even if you ask what my OTP is, or other such questions that require extreme soul-searching. :) I'll be answering all these questions on my blogoversary.
But, because a Q&A is fun but something that lots of people do for their blogoversaries, I'm going to do something else, too!
Brace yourself.
You each get to recommend me a book that I commit to reading during the month of May! At the end of the month, I'll do mini reviews of each of them, in the style of The Temperamental Writer. :) So if there's a book you've been wanting me to read, or one that you want to hear what I think of, etc., now's your chance! (I'm very excited about this! Also a little nervous. But mostly excited!)
There are a few rules that go with this:
1. One book per person!
2. This should go without saying, but...clean books please! A little bit of swearing and other sort of content is fine, and I'm okay with most violence, but no graphic explicit scenes (preferably no explicit scenes, period, but use your judgement), and less swearing is better. I reserve the right to DNF a book that has content that I don't want to read. :)
3. Please no Charles Dickens, Victor Hugo, Dostoyevsky, nor Tolstoy. I love those authors, but they're a bit much to try to get done in a month, along with however many other books.
4. It's okay if you recommend me a book I've read already! I'll just reread it. (Unless I hated it. In which I'll ask for another option.) So don't stress about that!
5. The cutoff date to recommend a book is this Sunday, May 9, because I need time to read. (But if you miss the deadline and you still want to recommend something, if you charm me enough and recommend me a good enough book, I might still accept your rec. :))
6. Anyone who reads my blog is welcome to recommend a book! Doesn't matter if you've never commented before, doesn't matter if you don't follow me, doesn't matter if you actually know me in real life, whatever! Still recommend a book!
And I think that's it! Ask and recommend away! I can't wait to see what y'all come up with!
What is your Otp? XD
ReplyDeleteUmm something you love that no one would expect?
Favorite song of the moment?
What's something your really enjoying?
Book recommendation is Lockwood & CO: The Screaming Staircase by Jonathan Stroud.
Dang, I should have know that if I mentioned the OTP question, someone would ask it. XD XD But I'm looking forward to answering your questions!
DeleteThat one looks like fun! Looking forward to reading it!
I asked McKayla some of these already for her Q&A coming up, but I'm always curious about it. (also feel free to ignore any of these)
ReplyDeleteHave you ever had an experience or interaction (or whatever you want) that sounds fake but actually happened?
If you could travel to a place you've never been, where would you go?
Is there someone you wish you could meet? (time travel is allowed. And on the other side of that, is there a fictional character you wish you could meet?)
Favourite fairytale or myth?
Did you have any weird obsessions growing up? (Do you have any weird/funny childhood stories? if you feel comfortable answering that)
I honestly have no idea if you have an interest in it, but do you have a favourite cryptid?
If you haven't read it already, I Capture The Castle by Dodie Smith
I've sort of wanted to do a Q&A at some point and I was wondering if you or anyone else that actually has a blog anniversary coming up (Congrats btw!) would mind if I did one?
Oh these are EXCELLENT questions, Elizabeth! Can't wait to answer them!
DeleteOoh, looking forward to reading it!
Oh, and forgot to answer your question, oops! No, I don't think we'd mind!
DeleteThanks!
DeleteI totally forgot to mention that there is sort of a 'scene ' in I Capture The Castle. Nothing actually happens but it comes close for a moment. I can't remember where it is though.
You're welcome!
DeleteThat shan't be a problem, but thank you for mentioning it. :)
Okay, I know I have been pestering you about this for a while, but my recommendation is The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern.
ReplyDeleteThere is one brief inappropriate scene about two-thirds of the way through, but it's easy to spot and skip.
-Legolas
I knew I'd be seeing you on here, m'dear. :) And I shall be delighted to read The Night Circus.
DeleteIs it bad that as soon as I read the word "recommendations" I thought of a million movies instead of books, lol? XD Next, I maniacally thought of an 800 page book but decided to be nice. It turns out that would've been against the rules anyway, but I still made the decision not to say that before I read that part. XD You didn't say if it had to be a novel so I'm recommending a short play. I hope that's acceptable. If not, let me know. ;) All My Sons by Arthur Miller. It's really intense but easy to read. I read it in three days which probably means it will only take you three hours... XD
ReplyDeleteYay for a blogoversary! Questions:
What was the first book you remember reading on your own?
What fictional pet would you want as your own?
What Marvel movie is your favorite (so far)? ;)
Describe nostalgia through a book, movie, and song (and optional memory).
(You can say roughly if this is too personal:) How long has your family been raising goats?
And (because this is always fun) name three (different from what you've said before!) songs that describe you.
Well, movies are your specialty, so I won't say I'm surprised! Maybe someday I'll ask for movie recommendations as a blogoversary thing, but right now I just don't have the time! Ooh, a short play sounds fun! I'll look forward to it! (I mean...yeah, I might read it in three hours. XD)
DeleteGreat questions!
OOOOOOOH!! First of all, congratulations on the one-year-blogiversary!!! That is quite a huge accomplishment, and it is so wonderful having you here in the blogging community!!
ReplyDeleteSecondly: QUESTIONS!!! Let me see....
- what is the cleverest riddle you know?
- if your soul was a color, what color would it be?
- what is a book you think everyone should read?
- what is the strangest situation you've ever found yourself in?
Feel free to pick and choose which of these you like! And as for a book rec, I would adore it if you read The Princess and The Goblin by George MacDonald! It's one of my all-time favorites, and I think you'd enjoy it!!
Thank you so much!! It's great to be here!
DeleteExcellent questions! I look forward to answering them. :)
Ahhh, excellent rec! I really enjoyed that one when I was little, and will have lots of fun reading it again!
My rec is Daddy Long Legs by Jean Webster. It's a classic so there's nothing at all inappropriate, but it's also really, really fun!
ReplyDeleteMy questions: what's your favourite colour?
If you could go back in time, what century would you go to?
Favourite book- to-movie adaptation?
Cool! I've heard a lot about that one (and I think I may have read it once when I was very small, but I don't remember much XD) so I think I'll have fun with it!
DeleteGood questions!
CONGRATS!!!! One of my favorite book series is the Ascendance series by Jennifer A Nielsen! You should really read the False Prince (first book). Have a wonderful day!!
ReplyDeleteHi Rylie! Thank you! I've actually read The False Prince and The Runaway King pretty recently--is it okay if I read The Shadow Throne, instead? I haven't read that one yet. :) I hope you have a great day as well!
DeleteOoh, this looks fun. A book I would suggest would be the first Wings of Fire book (or, if you've already read that series, just pick your favorite one from the series).
ReplyDeleteHere are my questions:
Which fictional characters do you think you're like?
Which fictional characters do you wish you were like?
Favorite Jane Austen book and why?
If you could be a Marvel character, who would you be?
What is your third favorite type of animal?
If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?
What are your three favorite musicals?
What is your favorite book cover?
What is the worst book-to-movie adaptation, in your opinion?
Excellent choice! It's been ages since I've read any of those books, so I shall enjoy rereading Dragonet Prophecy. :)
DeleteGreat questions, too! I'll have a lot of fun answering them...
So hi! I don't have any good questions (finishing up my last classes and my brain is FRIED lol) but I DO have a book suggestion! Its a fairly easy (yet fun!) read and its clean!
ReplyDeleteI would suggest any book by KM Shea, but The Elves of Lessa would be good! (They're more complete/individual stories rather than the trilogies. The Timeless Fairytales are also basically stand alone books that fit into a larger plot line, but the first book in that series isn't my most favorite ever so if you only read one, Elves of Lessa is your best shot!)
Hi MK! So good to 'see' you! (Good luck finishing your classes--I totally relate. Last quarter of senior year, and my brain is DONE.)
DeleteOoh, thank you for recommending that one! I've wanted to read K. M. Shea for ages but a) I didn't know where to start and b) I couldn't find any of the books...I just figured out how to find the books, and now I know where to start!
Congrats on your blogoversary!!! hope you have many more :)
ReplyDeleteWhat is your ultimate OTP?
what would you consider to be your aesthetic?
5 favorite songs at the moment?
also for a book! i would recommend Faro's Daughter by Georgianna Heyer. Its so hilarious and i think you'll enjoy it!
Thank you!
DeleteOoh, I've read some Heyer, but not that one yet! I'm sure I will enjoy it immensely!
....Would it be mean if I took this opportunity to make you reread Gatsby? (It's short, right? Like, 200 pages? So it can't be THAT mean to make it my recommendation?) (But don't reread it if you don't want to.) (I think my phlegmatic is showing.)
ReplyDeleteAnd it looks like you've got plenty of fantastic questions to answer. :)
I don't think that would be mean! It is short. I think I can do it. :)
DeleteYes, it looks like I do!
Happy first birthday to little Bookshire!!!!! :D
ReplyDeleteAlso, ha. I got here just in time to add my voice to the clamor of book recs, didn't I? That was completely on accident, since I finished the semester yesterday (well...technically I still have a final Monday, but I ain't worried about it), but very nice because I definitely want to force books on you and ask weird questions.
(Ignore that.)
Questions:
-Do you think an honest person is the exception or the rule?
-What animals would there be in your dream house/life/property/do-you-know-what-I-mean-here?
-If you could live in any time period, in your same exact geographical location you live in now, which period would it be?
-Who's your favorite saint? (Also, in case you were going to say Dominic, you're not allowed to say Dominic. ;))
And my book rec is Badge of Infamy, by Lester del Rey! It's okay if you can't read it, though, because I'm actually not sure how easily obtainable it is? But hopefully you can. (It's also short. XD)
Thank you!!!
DeleteGood work finishing your semester! I was hoping you'd get here in time, but I also could read between the lines and figure out that school was probably killing you. XD
Excellent questions! (I was not going to say Dominic. Although I love him dearly.)
Ooh! I've never even heard of that one! (Which is a good sign, I think.) It's available for free on Kindle, so don't worry about that. :)
This is such a fun idea! Ok, my book rec is House Arrest by K. A. Holt.
ReplyDeleteWhich fictional characters do you relate to most?
In general, what is the most important ingredient in a good book for you (characters, plot, writing, etc.)? Is there a book you love that is an exception?
Which fictional character(s) need a hug right now?
Can't wait to read your post :)
Looks intriguing! Can't wait to read it!
DeleteExcellent (and hard) questions!
Congrats on your blogoversary, Sam!! I hope I'm not too late for a few questions. My semester just finished Friday (and now I can finally relax after writing a 12 page paper).
ReplyDelete1. Do you have any annual feast day celebrations/traditions for specific saints' feasts days? If so, which is your favorite?
2. Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years?
3. If you could choose a book right now to "jump" into and become one of the characters, which book would it be and which character?
I'm excited to read your answers!
Thank you! No, you're definitely not too late! And congrats on finishing your semester. :)
DeleteLooking forward to answering your questions!
