The Silmaril Awards 2024: Nominations Open!

*bounces into the blog* HELLO WONDERFUL PEOPLES OF THE INTERNET! I am here on a Monday in September, and you know what that means? IT'S SILMARIL TIME!!! *dances tiny jig* I'm so excited to host another Silmaril this year! They're a massive highlight of the blogging year for me (even if they make my dorm room super crowded, and last year's Silmarils resulted in the PDA levels at Newman skyrocketing exponentially ;)). In case you've never heard of these illustrious awards, and are wondering what the heck Samantha is freaking out about, the Silmaril awards are the equivalent of the Tonys or Oscars or Golden Globes...but for fantasy characters. Women and Action Movies

A slightly shorter post today...with some things I've been thinking about lately, apropos of my new love of Marvel! (Don't worry, I'll be back to my normal post length next Friday. :)) When my dad first showed me Pirates of the Caribbean , he was not expecting me to love it as much as I did. Same thing with Avengers . I think he's still kind of surprised, thirteen Marvel movies in. I have achieved my goal of confounding my family...with my love of action movies. (Yes, that means my two favorite movie genres are action and sci-fi. I'm guessing you weren't expecting that. Neither was I.) (Okay, I must explain myself. Every fantasy movie I can ever remember watching has been based on a book. And, as the t-shirt Legolas got me for Christmas says, "the book was better". March Wrap-Up (ft. A Quirk, again!)

Happy day-the-Ring-was-destroyed! Oh, and also happy feast of the Annunciation! :) It's a good day to recap my month, I guess. It's been quite busy and rather Lenten at moments, but it's starting to be spring here, which is beginning to do wonders for my mood, and school is going well and all that, so overall, I'm in pretty good shape. 1. The thing that really characterized my March (at least so far...at the beginning of next week, which is still officially March, I have a Landscape Architecture charrette , which might also be a characteristic event) was Spring Break! Home in the PNW for a whole glorious week and a day! It was lovely to see my family, wonderful to be back at my home parish for at least part of Lent (I got to go to Stations of the Cross there, which was a great joy), and also a joy to be back in my home city, where it had already been spring for several weeks (to be fair to Illinois, it's spring here now.
